Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukuji has narrated how he escaped narrowly from angry protestors who gained access to parliament during Tuesday’s demonstrations.
He was among thos who voted ‘no’ for the finance bill; but protestors were going after every MP regardless of their vote.
“Ilikuwa moto. Mi unajua nilikuwa pale bunge, nikaweka No. So tukiwa tuna vote, imekuwanga imefungwa, huwezi toka inje so me nikachomoka hapo nikaenda kukula dish. “Mimi tumekaa na rafiki yangu hapo anaitwa Patrick Munene, from Chuka. Dakika mbili mi naona wale watu wanatu serve wametukuja mbio,” he started off.

He explained that he had to leave his food behind to escape.
“Wamekuja mbio wanatuambia eh, watu wameingia. Me ndio huyo, cha nikaacha chakula hapo. Nika enda nikatoa hii tag nikaweka kwa mfuko, nika toa shati nikaweka korti peke yake. Nika chomoka sasa. Ndo mi nika chomoka, nika chomoka, nika fika pale kwa roundabout ya Harambee avenue,” he narrated.
Gitonga continued to explain how he cheekily used safer routes to go to his office.
“So walikuwa wamefunga kale ka gate ka me join Harambee House na hiyo pande ingine ya KICC. Ndo mimi huyo tena natoka KICC, nikatoka chini ya maji nikaingia hii upande ingine ya KICC, mpaka huko kwangu ofisi KICC.”
The protests saw numerous MPs cars’ get stoned by angry protestors. Some of the MPs had to use an ambulance to escape the angry protestors.
