Main Story
Sheikh AbdulHalim died quietly at his home in Tudor on the evening of July 9, 2025. The news was confirmed Thursday morning by Sheikh Jamaludin Osman, the Imam of Jamia Mosque in Mombasa. According to Islamic tradition, he will be laid to rest today after Asr prayers at Masjid Nuru, Bondeni, and interred at Kikowani Cemetery.

Born and raised along the Coast, Sheikh AbdulHalim studied Islamic Law at Cairo’s Al-Azhar University, graduating in 2001. He dedicated his career to serving as a Kadhi across several counties, including Kwale, Mombasa, and Nairobi, before being appointed Chief Kadhi in 2023 following the retirement of Sheikh Ahmed Muhdhar.
As Chief Kadhi, Sheikh AbdulHalim presided over matters of marriage, divorce, and inheritance under Islamic law, playing a vital role in the spiritual and legal lives of many Muslims in Kenya. Known for his humility and deep knowledge, he earned respect across religious and political lines.
President William Ruto described him as a “great Islamic scholar” whose dedication to justice made him a pillar in the judiciary. Chief Justice Martha Koome and Health CS Aden Duale also praised his calm leadership and tireless service, noting that his death is a significant loss for both the Islamic and legal communities in Kenya.
As Sheikh AbdulHalim returns to his Creator, Kenya reflects on a life marked by wisdom, service, and faith — a legacy that will continue to shape the justice system for generations.
