Jay-Z criticized the awards show for what he described as its snubs and inconsistencies in giving out honors to black artists, pointing out that his wife, Beyoncé, has the most Grammys but has never won the album of the year.

“I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has the most Grammys but has never won the best album of the year. Think about that: most Grammys……… never won album of the year. Even by your own metrics, that doesn’t  work.”Jay Z aired his opinion, defending his wife, Beyonce.

He insists that all he wants is for the Grammys to get it close to right; if they can’t, at least get it fully right the way it is supposed to be.

Beyonce’s win for best dance/electronic album for “Renaissance” at last year’s ceremony raised her win total to 32, the most of all time.

But “Renaissance” lost the album of the year award to Harry Styles’ “Harry’s House.” Her previous solo album, “Lemonade,” lost out to Adele’s “25” in 2017.

She did, however, receive a standing ovation from many, including Adele, who recognized her art and thought that her award should be hers because of the work Beyonce has put in.

Jay Z also conceded that the process of awarding Grammys is subjective. “It’s music, and it’s opinion-based,” he said. He ended his speech by encouraging viewers to keep showing up, both at award shows and in life.

“You got to keep showing up. Until they give you all those accolades you think you deserve. Until they call you chairman, until they call you a genius, until they call you the greatest of all time,” he concluded as he raised his trophy with a smile.
