How to apply for University Government Scholarship

A scholarship is a financial award given to a student to support their education. Unlike loans, you don’t need to repay a scholarship, which can make them invaluable in alleviating the cost of higher education.

Below is how to apply the Government scholarship together with what you need to have to qualify applying for one:

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
• A valid email address.
• A valid telephone number (must be registered in your name to apply for a loan).
• KCPE and KCSE Index number and year of examination.
• Passport-size photo.
• Copy of national ID for loan application (students without a national ID can apply for 
scholarship).
• College or university admission letter.
• Your birth certificate. 
• Your parents or guardians registered telephone number.
• Your parents or guardians ID number.
• A death certificate, if any, if your parent is deceased.
• Two parent/guardian’s ID number and registered telephone number (for loan application).
• Copy of a sponsorship letter if you were sponsored in secondary school.


APLLICATION PROCESS
Login to www.hef.co.ke, click on the student portal, and follow the below steps: 
• Step 1: Register and log in.
• Step 2: Fill out the out the profile and upload documents.
• Step 3: Select the option to apply for a scholarship or loan (or both).
Step 4: Submit your application.
• Step 5: Wait for an SMS or email notification. 
• Step 6: Wait for the award letter.


APPLICATION PORTAL 
• Students can apply for scholarships online at www.hef.co.ke. Applications can also be made. 
at: www.universitiesfund.go.ke or www.helb.co.ke
