Main Story:

It’s been weeks since Siaya Governor James Orengo was last seen conducting county business — and residents are starting to worry. The silence from both the governor and his office has sparked concern, especially with crucial governance functions such as the approval of the 2025/2026 budget now delayed.

Deputy Governor William Oduol, who was recently cleared of impeachment charges, claims he has been deliberately locked out of county operations. He says his office remains non-functional, with key staff instructed not to engage with him, and he now pays for official duties from his own pocket.

Frustrated by the power vacuum, citizens have filed a petition demanding intervention from key institutions including ODM, the Senate, IEBC, and the EACC. They argue the absence of leadership is paralysing service delivery and may breach constitutional obligations.

County Assembly Speaker George Okode has reportedly taken on roles typically reserved for the governor, including presiding over public events. While he insists nothing unlawful is happening, critics argue this crosses constitutional lines and sets a troubling precedent.

ODM party leader Raila Odinga has sought to calm the situation, stating that Orengo is in good health and will resume duties soon. However, without a clear timeline or public appearance, anxiety continues to build among Siaya residents.
