Government unveils simplified passport delivery system

The Directorate of Immigration Services department has announced significant changes to the passport collection process, aimed at simplifying the collection procedure for applicants.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Directorate revealed that applicants will no longer be required to book appointments to collect their passports, a move expected to significantly reduce waiting time and strained collection process.

The Directorate stated on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, that “we have simplified the process of passport delivery: applicants are no longer required to book an appointment to collect passports; this announcement marks a significant shift in the way the Immigration Department handles passport issuance, aligning with global best practices to enhance service delivery.

Under the new system, applicants will receive a notification from the Immigration Department once their passport application has been processed and the document has been printed. The notification will serve as confirmation that the passport is ready for collection. Applicants can then proceed directly to the collection desk at the respective offices where they applied for the passport, without the need to secure an appointment in advance.

This reform comes in response to extensive public feedback, which highlighted the need for a more streamlined and accessible process. The Directorate emphasised that the changes are part of its ongoing commitment to improving efficiency and accessibility in its services. By eliminating the appointment requirement, the Directorate aims to make the process more user-friendly and reduce the time applicants spend waiting for their passports.

The Department of Immigration Services Passport Control Office has been working to implement these changes swiftly, ensuring that the new system is in place and fully operational. The Directorate believes that this adjustment will not only benefit applicants by saving them time and effort but also help in managing the workflow more effectively within the immigration offices.

Public reaction to the announcement has been largely positive, with many expressing relief at the prospect of a more straight-forward process. “This is a much-needed change. It will make things easier for everyone, said one applicant.

The Directorate of Immigration Services remains committed to further enhancing its operations and is continuously seeking ways to improve the experience for citizens by urging them to reach out to them in case of any concerns and suggestions.
