What looked like an ordinary neighbourhood butchery in Kasarani has been unmasked as a covert cannabis distribution point, following a sharp intelligence-led operation by anti-narcotics detectives. The bust has exposed how everyday businesses are increasingly being used to mask illegal drug networks right under the public’s nose.

Main Story
Butchery Under Surveillance
Detectives from the Transnational Organised Crime Unit and the Anti-Narcotics Unit moved in on East Butchery in Marurui after receiving solid intelligence pointing to suspicious activity behind the counter. What appeared to be a normal meat business was reportedly doubling up as a distribution point for cannabis products.

The owner, identified as Paul Mwangi Karanja, was arrested after officers stormed the premises and uncovered a stash of narcotics allegedly prepared for sale.
Cannabis Hidden in Plain Sight
Inside the shop, officers recovered dozens of bhang rolls alongside cannabis-infused snacks, including cookies and mabuyu stored in small containers. Investigators believe the variety of products was a deliberate strategy to avoid suspicion and stay ahead of law enforcement.
Delivery Rider Caught in the Act
During the raid, a motorcycle delivery rider, Willinton Nadwa, was also taken into custody after allegedly arriving at the butchery with additional bhang rolls. Detectives say this points to an organised supply and distribution chain rather than a lone operation.
Second Arrest Along Nakuru–Nairobi Highway
In a separate but related operation, anti-narcotics officers mounted a roadblock in Limuru, Kiambu County, where they stopped a matatu headed to Nairobi. A search led to the arrest of Judith Faith Oriende, who was found with a suitcase containing several packages of bhang concealed in cellotape.
DCI Tightens the Net
All suspects remain in custody as investigations continue, with authorities reaffirming their commitment to dismantling drug networks through intelligence-driven operations aimed at protecting communities.
