Main Story
Oburu’s Tribute to His Brother
Speaking during the State funeral arrangements, Dr. Oburu Odinga said the family is determined to give Raila Odinga a send-off that reflects his lifetime of service to Kenya. He described his younger brother as “a dignified son of this land,” adding that his contribution to democracy and justice would never be forgotten.

“We will give Raila a dignified send-off which he deserves, as a dignified son of this land,” Oburu said emotionally. “The programme will end with a burial ceremony at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, and then later on, Raila will be buried next to our mum and dad in a private ceremony attended only by a few people.”
A Family and National Farewell
The Odinga family has invited Kenyans to participate in the national mourning events leading to the State funeral, which will be held at Nyayo Stadium before the body is taken to Siaya County.
The ceremony at JOOUST will celebrate Raila’s life, achievements, and political legacy. Later, the family will hold a private burial in Bondo, where Raila will rest beside his parents Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and Mary Juma Odinga in what Oburu described as a moment of peace and family closure.
A Legacy Etched in History
Oburu’s statement captured the mood of a nation in mourning. He reminded Kenyans that while Raila’s political journey was often marked by struggle, his life also symbolized hope, endurance, and a relentless fight for justice.
The final farewell, he said, will reflect those same values respect, humility, and dignity.
