Court Halts Recruitment Drive
The Employment and Labour Relations Court has barred the Kiambu County Government from proceeding with its current doctor recruitment exercise. The ruling, delivered by Justice Hellen Wasilwa, comes in response to a legal challenge filed by Dr. Gathoni Muriithi.

In her directive, Justice Wasilwa stated that the application was “certified urgent and allowed in terms of prayers B and C of the Notice of Motion.” The judge further directed that the matter be heard inter partes on October 28, 2025, after all parties have been duly served.

Petition Against County Hiring Process
Dr. Muriithi approached the court after Kiambu County published a public advertisement inviting applicants for several positions within the Department of Health. She argues that the recruitment process violates certain legal or procedural provisions prompting the court to halt the hiring until her case is fully determined.

The county government will now have to await the court’s final ruling before proceeding with any new appointments in the health department.

As the court prepares to hear the case later this month, many will be watching to see whether Kiambu’s hiring freeze signals deeper concerns about fairness and transparency in county recruitment.
