Main Story:
Former Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala is facing legal heat after he allegedly disrupted a national school sports event by landing a helicopter inside Mumias Sports Complex during a high-profile final. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has summoned the politician to explain his actions in person.
The incident, which took place during the national secondary school games final, saw the chopper touch down at the center of the field while hundreds of students, teachers, and fans were present.
Western region police commander Issa Muhamoud condemned the stunt, warning that the unauthorized landing posed serious risks to both participants and spectators. “Lives were put in danger,” he said, adding that the incident is being treated with the seriousness it deserves.
The stadium was filled with students from across the country, and many were caught off guard by the dramatic arrival of the helicopter.
Malala has been directed to appear before DCI officers in Kakamega this Friday, August 8, to provide a detailed explanation and assist with the ongoing probe.
As of now, the politician has yet to issue a formal statement, but the incident has already stirred backlash online, with critics accusing him of reckless behavior and using public events for personal showmanship.
