Main Story
Kenya’s capital has become the hub of Africa’s clean air movement as the CLEAN-Air Forum 2025 brings together more than 200 regional and international delegates. This year’s forum, themed “Partnerships for Clean Air Solutions,” is focused on building regional cooperation, scaling data-driven innovations, and influencing environmental policy across African cities.
The event is hosted by AirQo—a leading African air quality platform—alongside the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), Kenya’s NEMA, WRI Africa, and the Health Effects Institute. It unites stakeholders from public health, academia, urban planning, and the private sector, all committed to creating cleaner, healthier cities.

Across three days, participants will explore themes like air quality monitoring using low-cost sensors, artificial intelligence for pollution prediction, sustainable transport, and the role of women in environmental justice. Exhibitions, breakout labs, and poster sessions will showcase the latest clean-tech innovations coming out of Africa.

Leaders such as Nairobi’s Environment CEC Maureen Njeri and NEMA Director General Mamo Boru are expected to speak, alongside international experts. In a keynote session, WRI’s Wanjira Mathai urged collective action, stating, “Clean air is a right—not a privilege—and no one should be left behind.”

The CLEAN-Air Forum began in Kampala in 2023 and expanded in Lagos in 2024. With Nairobi now hosting, the forum has grown into a pan-African platform driving policy shifts and regional partnerships. Organisers say the next phase will focus on implementation—ensuring that clean air commitments translate into measurable results.
