Kenyan musician and businesswoman Esther Akoth, popularly known as Akothee, has addressed a troubling issue involving some of her male friends.
Taking to social media, the mother of five opened up about the discomfort she’s been feeling lately due to inappropriate conversations initiated by her male acquaintances.
Akothee expressed her frustration with friends who overstep boundaries by bringing up discussions about s*x, a topic she made clear has no place in their friendship. According to her, these conversations not only disrespect her but also her partner, Nelly Oaks. She emphasized that being comfortable with male friends should not give them the license to initiate inappropriate topics.
“Let’s be clear—are we just friends, or are we suddenly s*x mates or bed mates?” she asked, making it known that these conversations are not welcome. Akothee stressed that there’s no intention of dating or having any romantic involvement with these individuals, so such discussions should never come up.

Respect for relationships
Transitioning into the impact these conversations have on her personal life, Akothee posed an important question: “How am I supposed to explain it to Nelly Oaks when you call and start talking like that?”She expressed concern about how such talks could potentially damage her relationship. Moreover, Akothee, known for her loyalty to her partner, made it clear that she will not entertain any inappropriate dialogue from her friends.
In a bold statement, Akothee warned that if these inappropriate conversations continue, she wouldn’t hesitate to let her partner handle the situation directly. “If you call again, I will just give @nellyoaks the phone upambane naye, mimi nakesi siwezi,” she declared, further emphasizing her stance on loyalty and respect within her relationship.
The mother of five urged her male friends to respect themselves because if they want respect in return, they must earn it. Highlighting that respect is earned, not demanded, Akothee set a clear boundary, saying she will only discuss intimate topics with the person she’s involved with.
