Boniface Mwangi explains why he has to enjoy a good meal before going out for a protest

Published on

Kenyan activist Boniface Mwangi has shared a somber message about the ongoing protests against the Finance Bill. In a video posted to social media, Mwangi reveals the emotional toll the movement is taking, stating that every meal before a protest feels like a “last supper.”

Mwangi, a key organizer of the Occupy Parliament protests, highlights the lack of sleep and constant stress he’s endured since the movement began. Despite the challenges, he remains committed, emphasizing that “the struggle is stronger than sleep.”

The video shows Mwangi enjoying a meal with family, a stark contrast to the tense atmosphere of the protests. He credits his wife and her sister for their support and participation in the movement.

Mwangi also addressed the violence that erupted during the June 25th protest. He claims to have been the first to warn about infiltrated “goons” who disrupted the peaceful nature of the march. This incident led to clashes between protesters and police, resulting in tragic loss of life.

President Ruto acknowledged the peaceful nature of the initial protests but condemned the later violence as “treasonous” acts. The exact number of casualties remains unclear, with conflicting reports.

Ahead of further demonstrations, Mwangi discouraged marching to State House, arguing it would divert focus from holding Parliament accountable. He, however, confirmed his presence at the upcoming protests targeting Parliament.

Mwangi’s message is a powerful testament to the dedication and sacrifice required for social change. He urges supporters to join the demonstrations or express solidarity by staying home peacefully.
