Govt announces all schools to break for midterm amid heated protests

Published on

The govt has announced all schools to break for midterm on Tuesday, 25th leaving many questioning whether they care about the students/minors safety as most have to access the business center where protests are currently ongoing.

This comes a few days after it pushed the dates to 25th June from 20th as it was originally planned. Apparently the extra week was added to cover lost time students spent at home following heavy April – May rains.

The midterm break has now left parents worried as they fear their children might get caught in the demonstrations exposing them to an environment they wouldn’t navigate seeing how chaotic it gets at times.

Parents to take care of their own

The chairman of National Parents Association, Silas Obuhatsa on Sunday called on schools to make arrangements for students’ transport as they leave school.

“We have asked the Ministry of Education to provide clear guidance on how student safety will be ensured, especially those traveling home during the demonstrations,” said Obuhatsa.

Seeing that these are teenagers enticed by anything especially drama, Mr Obuhasta urged parents to monitor their children, ensuring they are aware of their moves.

“Teenagers are susceptible to peer pressure. It’s crucial for parents to monitor their children and ensure they don’t get involved in protest activities,” Obuhatsa went on.
